James Talarico Conveniently Comes Out Against Child Sex Changes After Singing Very Different Tune

Democratic Texas senate nominee James Talarico appears to be reversing his stance on child sex changes.

“I oppose gender reassignment surgeries for minors,” Talarico told Houston-based defense attorney Dan Cogdell on the “Unity Over Division” podcast Monday. He previously referred to said surgeries as “life-saving health care.”

Talarico’s campaign did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.

The former public school teacher turned Presbyterian seminarian’s statement appears to contradict statements he made before winning the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate last March.

“I love — I’m just going to say this because it’s on my mind — the trans children who showed up yesterday at the state Capitol to advocate for their humanity,” Talarico said during an episode of “A Superbloom Podcast” in May 2023.

“We were going to debate a bill that would deny trans children life-saving health care, and ultimately we didn’t get to the bill because Democrats called a point of order and were able to delay the bill a few days,” he previously said. “But we had trans activists, trans children, trans parents of trans children in the gallery, and they also launched their own peaceful protest and were removed from the gallery. And in fact, there’s video of one of the law enforcement officers violently throwing down one of those trans activists outside the House chamber.”

Texas State Rep. Talarico’s earlier statement was referencing SB14, a law he voted against that banned sex change surgeries for minors within the state of Texas in 2023.

Talarico faces Republican nominee and current Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton in the general election this November.

Cogdell represented Paxton during his 2023 impeachment trial before endorsing Talarico, NOTUS reported Monday.
