First Lady Jill Biden received criticism over a Christmas video posted to X, formerly known as Twitter, showing dancers tap dancing around the White House.
“A bit of magic, wonder, and joy brought to you by the talented tappers of Dorrance Dance, performing their playful interpretation of The Nutcracker Suite,” Jill Biden wrote in her post.
The video consisted of dancers from the New York City-based Dorrance Dance tap dancing throughout rooms of the White House in eclectic-looking outfits as they perform their take on “The Nutcracker Suite” by Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn.
Dorrance Dance noted on its website that “tape dance is a subversive form” of dance with roots in “protest and transcendence, improvisation and innovation” that were crucial to its success.

While many people criticized the video, many others praised the video.
“I watched this with the biggest smile on my face,” one user wrote. “Love this a lot!”
“I only watched like a minute of this (I skipped around a bit) and it looks quite skillful and the decorations are good also i didn’t see anything overly sexual so idk what the problem with this is,” another user wrote.
