A Republican congressman called on his Democratic colleagues to “denounce” the “threats and violence” facing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials.
Rep. Jim Banks (R-Ind.) blasted the “derisive political rhetoric” being slung at Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE agents) by “prominent Democrats” as “taking its toll” and called for them to speak out as “ICE officers face increasing threats and violence.”
The Indiana Republican then called on his Democratic colleagues to “denounce this behavior” as soon as possible.
“Clearly, the derisive political rhetoric aimed at Immigration and Customs Enforcement by prominent Democrats is taking its toll. We need to hear from them as ICE officers face increasing threats and violence. Surely, they do not condone this type of behavior,” Banks told IJR on Wednesday. “Healthy criticism and calls for reform are one thing. But open lawlessness is another. I call on my Democrat colleagues to denounce this behavior ASAP.”
Banks had also tweeted out his call for the “prominent Democrats” to “denounce this behavior” before “someone gets seriously hurt” on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, shots were fired at both an ICE office and a GEO Group — a contractor employed by ICE — office in San Antonio in attacks that the FBI and acting Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kevin McAleenan have labeled as “targeted,” as IJR Red previously reported.
McAleenan also said that “the environment where we’re demonizing law enforcement for doing their jobs, for enforcing the laws on the books, is concerning” and warned that it could lead to “people taking actions that are not supported by the facts.”
Additionally, Breitbart News published a video of protesters threatening current and former employees — such as former counsel John Bulfin — of the GEO group outside of the company’s building in Florida.

“We know where all your children live throughout the country. John Bulfin you have kids in [censored], you have kids in [censored],” yelled one protester. “We know everything about you and you won’t just be seeing us here.”
