A major shift in lifestyle has taken Jonah Hill far from the spotlight that once defined his career, as the actor revealed he quietly relocated years ago in search of a different pace of life.
According to Fox News, while speaking during a live taping of the SmartLess podcast, Hill shared that he left Los Angeles behind and settled in a small community near San Diego to focus on raising his family.
The move, he explained, came shortly after becoming a father for the first time.
“So real quick, before we go any further, my wife is here. My best friend. Shout-out to my beautiful wife, Liv. Where is she? Oh, what’s up, baby?” Hill said while on stage with hosts Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes and Will Arnett.
“So I live in a very small town in San Diego, and it’s amazing, and my neighbors are incredible people. And when we had our first kid, we moved out there three years ago.”
He added, “I wanted to leave LA and raise a family outside of Los Angeles.”
Hill and his wife have since welcomed a second child, further cementing his transition into family life away from the entertainment hub.
While he has stepped back from the Hollywood environment, Hill spoke fondly of growing up in Los Angeles and the unique experiences it offered before the digital age.
“I grew up here,” he confessed. “LA was such a cool place to grow up in the ’90s because you could go skateboard downtown, or you could sneak into a movie premiere, or you could go sneak into a comedy club and see Chris Rock or something.”
“You had access to show business stuff, but you had access to punk and skating and graffiti and all the naughty stuff. And there was no internet. It was just so awesome.”
Hill’s rise to fame came quickly after early appearances in films like “The 40-Year-Old Virgin” and “Grandma’s Boy,” followed by his breakout role in “Superbad.”
“It was very overnight for me,” Hill previously said of his success.
“[Co-star] Michael Cera and I talk about it all the time. We just had this really rare experience: One day life was one way, and then one day life was a different way.”
After that breakthrough, Hill said he quickly found himself navigating fame without much preparation.
“I was a kid,” he said. “I had probably too much power for a young person, and too much autonomy, and not enough life skills.”
Reflecting on that period, he acknowledged that stepping away from Los Angeles ultimately aligned with his priorities, especially as his family grew.
