Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron (R) has won his party’s nomination for the gubernatorial election.

In a victory speech after winning the primary on Tuesday, Cameron offered a “big thank you to President Donald J. Trump for his support and his endorsement of this campaign.”

“Let me just say, the Trump culture of winning is alive and well in Kentucky!” he added.

Cameron, who was endorsed by former President Donald Trump, defeated former U.N. Ambassador Kelly Craft.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) had backed Craft for the gubernatorial nomination.

Cameron will face Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear (D) in the November general election.

His comment about the Trump “culture of winning” appeared to be a jab at DeSantis.

During a trip to Iowa over the weekend, DeSantis did not criticize Trump directly. But he referenced the losses his party has suffered since Trump’s 2016 election as he told Republicans, “Governing is not about entertaining. Governing is not about building a brand or talking on social media and virtue signaling. It’s ultimately about winning and producing results.”

“We must reject the culture of losing that has impacted our party in recent years. The time for excuses is over,” he continued.

He added, “If we get distracted, if we focus the election on the past or on other side issues, then I think the Democrats are going to beat us again.”

Cameron’s victory comes after a poll showed Trump holding a large lead over the Republican presidential primary field in Kentucky.

An Emerson College Polling/Fox 56 Lexington poll found the former president had 70% support of the respondents.

Meanwhile, DeSantis came in a distant second at 14%.
