FBI Employee Text After Trump Election: ‘Figure I Need to Brush Up on Watergate’

A fresh round of text messages revealed that FBI employees Peter Strzok and Lisa Page expressed even more disdain for Republicans, and Page indicated that former President Barack Obama kept close tabs on their work.

“Potus wants to know everything we’re doing,” Page, according to Fox News, texted her paramour, Strzok, in September 2016.

Strzok and Page, according to The Wall Street Journal, discussed talking points to help former FBI Director James Comey brief Obama on the FBI’s investigation into potential Russian meddling in the United States election process.

Both Strzok and Page, who participated in special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into President Donald Trump’s alleged ties to Russia, expressed disdain for the president.

Just days after Trump’s election in 2016, Page told Strzok she bought “All the President’s Men,” the movie about The Washington Post’s investigation into the Watergate break-in under former President Richard Nixon.

“I bought all the president’s men. Figure I need to brush up on watergate,” Page texted.

On Election Day, Strzok said he was “so depressed” in response to Page texting, “OMG THIS IS F***ING TERRIFYING.”

The newly revealed texts come at a time in which the administration is scrutinizing the Department of Justice over apparent political bias in its ranks.

Trump specifically called out FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe after his wife received campaign money from a Clinton ally.

On the day after McCabe’s wife, Jill, lost her bid for the Virginia Senate, Strzok suggested that Loudoun County, in northern Virginia, was full of “ignorant hillbillys.”

“Disappointing, but look at the district map. Loudon (sic) is being gentrified, but it’s still largely ignorant hillbillys (sic). Good for her for running, but curious if she’s energized or never again,” he wrote.

News of the texts came on the heels of a newly released memo, written by Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee, which claimed, among other things, that the FBI worked with an investigator who was “desperate” for Trump not to get elected:

That investigator, Christopher Steele, compiled the infamous dossier containing allegedly scandalous information about Trump.

The committee voted on Monday to release a Democratic memo, which according to ranking member Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), will “help inform the public of the many distortions and inaccuracies in the” Republican memo.
