It looks like the American people were not interested in seeing a Broadway production about former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

The Clintons were the focus of a new play, “Hillary and Clinton.” The production of the show cost $4.2 million and earned a Tony nomination for Laurie Metcalf, who portrayed Hillary Clinton alongside actor John Lithgow.

While nominations and high production value could signal success, that was not the case for “Hillary and Clinton.” According to a report from the Hollywood Reporter, the show failed to sell tickets, and its runtime has been cut short by a month. In the past few weeks, the show reached only 36 percent of its gross earnings potential.

In total, there were 37 preview performances and 77 regular viewings before the decision was made to pull the plug on the play.

The show itself was not a biographical production of the Clintons’ lives but rather a fictitious depiction of what it could have looked like as Hillary, who appeared to be the front-runner in 2008, had the election swept out from under her by then-candidate Barack Obama.

Broadway isn’t the only location where the Clintons have been struggling to fill seats.

The former first couple has been on a speaking tour for the past few months, but many seats have been left empty. According to a report from the New York Post, tickets prices have dropped to as low as $20 on alternative online ticket outlets.

The best seats in the house were set to be sold for $1,785, but tickets could be found online for $829 prior to the event date.

That hasn’t stopped Hillary Clinton from using the stage to go after her former campaign competitor, President Donald Trump, however.

As IJR previously reported, she claimed the 2016 election was “stolen” from her during one of her speaking engagements in May.

“You can run the best campaign, you can even become the nominee, and you can have the election stolen from you,” Hillary Clinton said.
