Man Previously Shot in the Arm by Kyle Rittenhouse Files Lawsuit Against Him

KENOSHA, WISCONSIN - NOVEMBER 05: Kyle Rittenhouse looks back as the late Anthony Huber's great aunt, Susan Hughes, enters the courtroom during his trial at the Kenosha County Courthouse on November 5, 2021 in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Rittenhouse is accused of shooting three demonstrators, killing two of them, during a night of unrest that erupted in Kenosha after a police officer shot Jacob Blake seven times in the back while being arrested in August 2020. Rittenhouse, from Antioch, Illinois, was 17 at the time of the shooting and armed with an assault rifle. He faces counts of felony homicide and felony attempted homicide. Kyle Rittenhouse is being sued by a man he previously shot in the arm.

Fox News reported Gaige Grosskreutz, who was shot by Rittenhouse during the 2020 riots in Kenosha, Wisconsin, filed a lawsuit against Rittenhouse plus the state’s police and officials.

According to the report, Grosskreutz is seeking economic losses, “damages for emotional distress, humiliation, loss of enjoyment of life, and other pain and suffering on all claims,” as well as punitive damages.

“Astonishingly, the Kenosha Police Department, Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department, their supervising officials and police officers, and law enforcement officers from surrounding communities did not treat Defendant Rittenhouse or any of the other armed individuals patrolling the streets as a threat to the safety of themselves or the citizens they were sworn to protect,” the lawsuit states, per Fox News.

It continues, “Instead, the law enforcement Defendants deputized these armed individuals, conspired with them, and ratified their actions by letting them patrol the streets, armed with deadly weapons, to mete out justice as they saw fit.'”

The lawsuit was reportedly filed on Feb. 14 by attorneys Kimberley Motley of Motley Legal Services and E. Milo Schwab of Ascend Counsel.

Rittenhouse told Fox News he is prepared to “prove my innocence again.”

However, he acknowledged it will not be a cheap task.

The outlet pointed out Grosskreutz participated in protests following the shooting of Jacob Blake.

Rittenhouse was later charged with two counts of homicide, one count of attempted homicide and other charges after shooting and killing Joseph Rosenbaum and Anthony Huber.

He shared how the lawsuit was surprising.

“I guess it came as a shock to why he’s filing a lawsuit because he admitted that he pointed a gun in my face and that he chased me down,” Rittenhouse said.

The lawsuit states that Grosskreutz “approached with his hands in the air to try to ease the situation and stop the killing.”

It goes on, “Defendant Rittenhouse instead shot Mr. Grosskreutz in the bicep, leaving a gaping wound. Thankfully, Mr. Grosskreutz did not die that day.”

The lawsuit argued, “He must live with the physical and emotional wounds inflicted by Defendant Rittenhouse and the Defendants who deputized and enabled him. The conduct of the Defendants in this case directly caused Gaige Grosskreutz’s injury.”

In November 2021, Rittenhouse was found not guilty.

“He wants to get on with his life,” defense attorney Mark Richards said at the time.

Richards explained, “He has a huge sense of relief for what the jury did to him today. He wishes none of this ever happened. But as he said when he testified, he did not start this.”
