One man showed exactly why it’s a bad idea to pull a gun on a Texas police officer.
KPRC reports what started as a routine traffic stop turned into a life-or-death situation. Marco Antonio Saavedra was pulled over after he did not stop at a stop sign and began to exit the vehicle against police orders.
In the released video, Saavedra can be seen trying to hide a firearm at his side before pointing it at the officer. In response, the officer fired multiple times and hit Saavedra, who managed to walk away at first.
After being hit, Saavedra still refused to drop the weapon and continued to point it at the officer, forcing him to fire again before Saavedra finally fell to the ground and died.
“He’s obviously shaken up. Anytime an officer is placed in a position where he has to take somebody’s life, it’s a stressful situation,” Pasadena Police Department Asst. Chief Josh Bruegger told KPRC. “It’s unfortunate the officer was placed in the position but, when the suspect points a weapon directly at the officer the officer really has no choice but to defend himself.”
The gun Saavedra was in possession of had been reported to be stolen earlier.
