The acting director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) blasted freshman firebrand Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) for her comparison of U.S. migrant detention facilities to concentration camps.
During an interview with Hill.TV on Tuesday, Acting ICE Director Mark Morgan — who was tapped by President Donald Trump to lead the agency last month — torched the self-described democratic socialist congresswoman for equivocating border detention facilities to concentration camps, calling her remarks “completely inappropriate” and “wrong.”
“It’s completely inappropriate, it’s reckless, it’s irresponsible, it’s misinformed, and it’s flat out wrong,” said Morgan.

The acting ICE director continued on to say that “there is so much oversight” in the detention centers and pointed to reports by nongovernmental organizations and inspector generals regarding the facilities.
“I encourage the check and balance, I encourage inspections,” said Morgan. “And I feel very satisfied that if you go to these facilities — whether its a border patrol facility, [a Department of Health and Human Services] facility, or an ICE facility — that there will be safe and adequate conditions to detain individuals.”
Morgan was not the only one to take issue with the New York Democrat’s comments.
As IJR Red previously reported, Ocasio-Cortez came under fire from users on Twitter after claiming in an Instagram Live video on Monday that the migrant detention facilities at the U.S.-Mexico border were “exactly” like concentration camps.
Additionally, the chairwoman of the House Republican Conference Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) blasted Ocasio-Cortez for her remarks on Twitter, telling the freshman firebrand to “do us all a favor and spend just a few minutes learning some actual history.”
“You demean their memory and disgrace yourself with comments like this,” Cheney added.
Ocasio-Cortez’s comments are not hitting home in her state, either, with the Jewish Community Relations Council of New York condemning her remarks and offering the congresswoman a tour of a Holocaust museum so that she can gain a “better understanding” regarding the “horrors of the Holocaust.”
