The president is continuing to come under fire following a whistleblower’s complaint that he allegedly asked the Ukrainian president during a phone call to look into 2020 political rival Joe Biden (D). A second whistleblower’s report was filed on Sunday, according to a lawyer.
Trump has denied wrongdoing, saying there’s “NO quid pro quo!”
While the president is finding himself under increasing calls for impeachment from Democrats, including several 2020 presidential hopefuls, he has also had the support from some Republican Congress members.
During Sunday’s MSNBC interview, Waters blasted those who are backing the president, as she labeled them “spineless” for doing so.
“The president is all about himself,” she said, adding, “Now, if you want to know something, I am disgusted with those spineless members of the Senate who don’t have the guts to stand up for this country.”
“Many of them have defined themselves as patriotic. They’re not patriotic. They are spineless and they’re not willing to step up and do what needs to be done in recognizing the danger of this president.”
Watch Waters’ interview below:
The Democratic lawmaker continued to suggest that those who are supporting Trump amid this Ukraine controversy are “willing to harm our country.”
“They may be frightened about him. […] They don’t deserve to be elected by anything and anybody and serve this country if they have that kind of fear. If you have that kind of fear, you’re not a good representative. […] You don’t stand up for the security of this country. And so, I have no respect for any senator, any member of Congress, who is not willing to put themselves on the line for this country. And understand that our security is at stake.”
Waters has been vocal about her criticism of Trump and support for his impeachment.
Following the Democratic-led House’s announcement that they’d be launching a formal impeachment inquiry into the president, Waters told BuzzFeed News that she felt “vindicated,” as IJR previously reported.
The Democrat took things a step further when she then suggested on October 1 that “impeachment is not good enough for Trump” but, instead, “He needs to be imprisoned [and] placed in solitary confinement.”
