Sen. Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii) thinks the president is “just thumping his chest” with his latest public Twitter threat to Iran.
President Donald Trump threated the Middle Eastern country on Sunday.
“If Iran wants to fight, that will be the official end of Iran,” he tweeted. “Never threaten the United States again!”

Hirono, who serves on the Senate Armed Services Committee, doesn’t want to see a needless war.
“If the president thinks that he can resolve all of these problems by military might, he’s so wrong,” she said on CNN on Monday. “This is something that [former Defense] Secretary [James] Mattis said, we need a diplomatic resolution to all these conflicts, and so this is a president, once again, just thumping his chest and acting like he is the dictator that I think he wants to be.”

“So with this president, he’s very unpredictable,” Hirono continued, expressing concern that Trump makes foreign policy decisions on his own without outside counsel from advisers.
“This is why it’s really hard to rely upon — pretty much, in my view — whatever the president says both domestically and in foreign policy,” she added.
Trump’s Twitter threat comes as tensions with Iran are rising — worrying some that a war could be on the way. Both Trump and Iranian officials have clarified they don’t want their disagreements to amount to such action, but threats on both sides aren’t helping to ease concerns.
