“The View” ladies got into a heated debate following President Donald Trump’s televised message addressing border security and why the wall along the southern border is necessary.
“The View” co-host Meghan McCain stood up to her co-hosts on illegal immigration at the southern border and border security.
Noting a Morning Consult political poll, McCain shared that the poll “conducted January 4th through 6th, found 79 percent of all voters in the country think that there is a crisis or problem with illegal immigration on the southern border.”
She went on to claim that Daily Wire editor Ben Shapiro had the “best tweet” about how “All ‘Democrats have to do is not be crazy to win 2020,’ because we have so much crazy right now” — as Mediaite noted, it was actually possibly a retweet by Shapiro.

McCain also brought up newly sworn-in Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s (D-N.Y.) appearance on MSNBC’s “The Rachel Maddow Show,” where she criticized President Trump’s “fantasy” of building the wall, as IJR Red reported.
The co-host said Ocasio-Cortez’s statements were “far more concise” than the remarks delivered by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer following the president’s address on Tuesday — which people on social media pointed out their awkward appearance.

However, McCain said Ocasio-Cortez “was basically demonizing border agents and I.C.E.,” adding that “the problem is whether liberals like it or not, border security is a big issue for Americans. It’s one of the major reasons why Trump got elected.”
“I don’t think anyone has any problem with the border security. I don’t think that’s the issue. It is the wall that I think the Democrats are speaking about,” co-host Whoopi Goldberg said in defense.
McCain went on to say: “What I’m trying to tell you is if Democrats want to win in 2020, don’t demonize people that want hard border security.”
Just left a meeting with Chuck and Nancy, a total waste of time. I asked what is going to happen in 30 days if I quickly open things up, are you going to approve Border Security which includes a Wall or Steel Barrier? Nancy said, NO. I said bye-bye, nothing else works!

Whether Democrats really do “believe in border security,” as co-host Sunny Hostin claimed, there doesn’t seem to be a lot of negotiation as both sides of the political spectrum as they’ve held their ground where they stand on border wall funding in day-19 of the government shutdown.
