Repeatedly pressing the 2020 Democrat, McCain didn’t let Booker come out of the interview without answering to his gun control plan.
During Wednesday’s appearance on the show, McCain asked Booker about his “left-wing fever dream,” as what she called the mandatory gun buybacks for assault weapons.
“I want to know how you think you and Beto are going to into red states and go to my brother’s house and get his AR-15s?” McCain asked, adding, “‘Cause let me tell you, he’s not giving it back.”
After first suggesting he’s “not where Beto is” on the gun confiscation, with McCain then calling Beto O’Rourke “crazy,” Booker went on to deliver a lesson on not “[tearing] at the character of people down.” While going on to discuss that, McCain kept pushing for him to answer on his gun policy.
“But, with all due respect, the gun buybacks,” McCain interjected, adding, “Just tell me semantically how you’re going to get my brother’s gun back.”
“We can find the evidence-based way to accomplish this as a country, other countries have done it — we did it with machine guns,” Booker said.

Booker and O’Rourke are two 2020 hopefuls who support mandatory gun buybacks, while other contenders have other stances on assault weapons, as IJR previously reported.
O’Rourke, however, has been more vocal about his policy, as he previously declared that “there have to be consequences or else there is no respect for the law.”
If someone refuses to hand over their gun, then, as O’Rourke told MSNBC, “There would be a visit by law enforcement to recover that firearm and to make sure that it is purchased, bought back so that it cannot be potentially used against somebody else.”
