Former Vice President Joe Biden welcomed a new member to his family on Saturday. He adopted Major, the German shepherd rescue from the Delaware Humane Association.

“We are so happy to welcome Major to the Biden family, and we are grateful to the Delaware Humane Association for their work in finding forever homes for Major and countless other animals,” the Bidens said in a statement.

According to the Delaware Humane Society, Major was brought to the shelter as a puppy after being exposed to something toxic and the previous owners not being able to afford veterinary care. Major’s story caught the attention of the former vice president through social media, and he reached out to provide a new home.

Patrick Carroll, the executive director of the Delaware Humane Association, put out a statement on the adoption:

It was such an honor for us to adopt a puppy to Vice President Joe Biden and Dr. Jill Biden. We make friends for life at DHA and we know that the bond between humans and their pets is incredibly strong. We have adopted thousands of animals into homes in Delaware, and we are happy to add the Vice President and his family to our list.

The shelter put out a video documenting the story of Major and how he found his new home with the Bidens.

After pictures of Biden and Major circulated on the internet, people couldn’t help but notice a strange similarity between the two.

Major will join Champ as the second dog in the Biden household.

Good job, Joe.

I think people on any side of politics can come together to agree this is a beautiful dog.

I was thinking that Triumph, the Comic Insult Dog would be more appropriate. Kudos to Mr. Biden for providing a home to a hero.

I know a good boy when I see one and Major will definitely be a good boy for the Biden family.
