Meghan McCain opened up about her struggles with grief after her father, the late Sen. John McCain, became a focal point of criticism for President Donald Trump again this week.

The Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday that officials within the Trump administration asked the Navy to have the USS John S. McCain “out of sight” for the president’s visit to Japan.

After the report was published, Meghan McCain took to Twitter to express her disappointment.

“Trump is a child who will always be deeply threatened by the greatness of my dads incredible life,” she wrote. “There is a lot of criticism of how much I speak about my dad, but nine months since he passed, Trump won’t let him RIP. So I have to stand up for him. It makes my grief unbearable.”

Trump responded to the report, telling reporters on the White Houe lawn Thursday that he had nothing to do with actions taken to hide the warship. In doing so, Trump took shots at the late senator and criticized his stances on health care, veteran care, and the war in the Middle East.

“John McCain — I wasn’t a fan. But I would never do a thing like that,” he said. “Now, somebody did it because they thought I didn’t like him, OK? And they were well-meaning, I will say.”

Meghan McCain addressed the issue Thursday on “The View.”

“The president’s actions have consequences, and when you repeatedly are attacking my father and war heroes, it creates a culture in the military where people are clearly fearful to show my father’s name,” she said, adding that the ship isn’t just named after her father but her grandfather and great-grandfather as well, both of whom were four-star Navy admirals.

McCain continued:

“There’s a lot of criticism towards me in the media across the board of how often I speak of my father, how I grieve, how I do it publicly. But it’s impossible to go through the grief process when my father, who has been dead 10 months, is constantly in the news cycle because the president is so obsessed with the fact that he’s never going to be a great man like he was.”

The president has publicly attacked McCain multiple times since his death. So far this year, Trump complained that the McCain family never thanked him for his funeral and went after the late senator for his academic record in college.

Trump’s immaturity as a person is always on display – I mean the man is a basic idiot with no discernible judgement whatsoever – but his treatment of this dead man who built his reputation going to places that Trump chickened out of is beyond childish. They should have thrown him out of office months ago. Every day America gets that little bit weaker while this clown is allowed to play ‘President’s’.

Trump’s treatment of McCain is beyond disgusting, it is IMMORAL! And for someone as CORRUPT as Trump to fire someone as honorable as James Comey can be seen by all as contemptuous in the extreme. No obstruction of justice, B.S! Democrats need to get TOUGH in calling out this constant, HORRID barrage of truly EVIL GOP propaganda and purposeful deception. This is a comment I’ve been leaving after reading mainstream news articles on the GOP, the Mueller Report and other political articles: “Almost everything these GOP operatives have said about Democrats can and SHOULD more applicably be turned right back… Read more »
