Melania Trump Denies ‘Shameful’ Report She Never Wanted to Be First Lady

Since assuming her role as first lady, Melania Trump has continued to ease her way into the spotlight. While her reserved personality and dedication to separating her private and public lives have earned the respect of some, it’s raised questions from others.

“This isn’t something she wanted and it isn’t something he ever thought he’d win,” a longtime friend of the Trump family reportedly told Vanity Fair. “She didn’t want this come hell or high water. I don’t think she thought it was going to happen.”

While the anonymous friend said Trump didn’t want to become the first lady, Vanity Fair also wrote that Roger Stone told the outlet she was the one to tell her husband, President Donald Trump, to “either run or don’t run.”

Stone credited that statement as the driving force behind his decision to enter the race.

In response to the article, the first lady’s spokeswoman denied the claim Trump is unhappy with her role in a statement to CNN’s White House reporter Kate Bennett. The statement said it was yet another example of the “liberal media” writing a story “riddled with unnamed sources and false assertions.”

“As a magazine tailored to women, it is shameful that they continue to write salacious and false stories meant to demean Mrs. Trump, rather than focus on her positive work as First Lady and a supportive wife and mother,” the statement said.

The spokeswoman reiterated that Trump is “honored” by her role as the first lady.
