President Trump is en-route to Texas to visit victims of Hurricane Harvey. The hurricane has devastated large swathes of southern Texas and has displaced hundreds of thousands of families from their homes. The historic flooding has also claimed number of lives.
The president was joined while leaving the White House today by the first lady, Melania Trump. While the First Family is headed to a disaster zone in the middle of a deadly storm there was only one thing on the mind of photographers and reporters as they left the White House: Melania’s stilettos.
Here is what Melania Trump wore to board Marine One, according to the Washington Examiner:

The first lady wore black cropped pants, a green bomber jacket, and black stilettos as she exited the White House for Marine One.
And here is what some journalists and writers had to say about it:

Those stilettos should help her stay above the flood line https://t.co/dQ89fK18N5

A quick search in Getty Images shows that the photographers on the other side of the lens were also fixated on Melania’s shoes. Some wonder if Melania had a change of shoes on Air Force One:
I'm gonna give Melania the benefit of the doubt and argue that maybe she has boots on Air Force One?

This is certainly not the first time that the first lady has been criticized for her shoe wear. Earlier this month, Newsweek criticized the Trump women for wearing heels and called them “horrifying” for their shoe choices.

According to the article:
Feminists have long grappled with the high-heeled shoe, and whether the stiletto telegraphs power (sexual or otherwise) or self-hobbled weakness. Stiletto pumps are the ultimate test of a certain type of femininity. They signal the taut combination of power and weakness that conservative women must cultivate in order to survive among ideologues who are crafting our tax-free “Handmaid’s Tale” future.
Everything is political.
