Ed commented on the post, Germany Warns Against Early Troop Withdrawal from Afghanistan 3 days, 9 hours ago
Time for us to leave, with our tail between our legs, after losing an 18-year war against an enemy dedicated to living in the Stone Age. This should just be yet another reminder that maybe we should be minding our own business unless we are fighting a truly global threat that actually has our existence on the line. All that we’ve done since WW2 i…[Read more]
You know, the idea that anyone would pay money for the chance to put a bullet in someone just reinforces the idea that we’re a barbaric nation where we all just want to shoot each other. I know that the comment was in jest, but damn. Let’s also remember that these shooters would probably try to make their sprees so epic that they “win” the record…[Read more]

Well, on the bright side, the wife of one of the injured officers started a GoFundMe to help cover his medical expenses and has hit $47k already.
If that officer who was shot multiple times while stopping that crazed monster was conscious and able to make sure that all of the doctors who treated him in the ER were in his healthcare network…[Read more]

Well, let’s be honest here, Phoenix. The 1st day of a missed period generally means that you’re about 2 weeks pregnant, but calling it 4 just makes it easier to count.
Abortion is infanticide, regardless of how you characterize the development of the new life. Saying that one is fit for extermination due to the circumstances of its con…[Read more]
Ed commented on the post, Texas Police Seek Clues to Explain Walmart Shooting that Killed 20 1 month, 2 weeks ago
This being Texas and at a Walmart, I’m sure it will come out that there were several people armed and licensed who were present. If I were shopping for school supplies, I’d likely be with my kids. If someone came in shooting while I was there, my priority would be to get my family and anyone else I could help someplace secure. I’m sure it was p…[Read more]
The biggest problem, General, is that most people don’t have any idea how much their healthcare costs. The group of people who are the most informed are also the group who are mostly on Medicare already.
It would be very easy for me to look at the $150 that is deducted every payday from my paycheck, the occasional $20 copay that I spend at a d…[Read more]
I just looked up the latest info for Emeryville, just a few months old.
1) Median income: $81,588 vs $46,022 for the US. I think they can afford a rise in sandwich costs.
2) Average hours worked per week: 40.8, vs 38.7 for the US. They’re not cutting hours as much as everyone else.
3) Average hourly earnings: $38.46, vs $22.87 for the US. I…[Read more]
Let’s see, work 60 hours a week for $30k/yr, or work 40 hours a week for $30k/year at the exact same job. That’s a tough choice.
Sometimes cutting hours isn’t a bad thing.
Just a placeholder, because IJR
Screwtape (my reply is a dummy lure, because IJR) – you cant really blame Obamacare for a 4x increase in your premiums. It’s not as if healthcare suddenly got more expensive since 2008; it’s been shooting up for a long time.
You can blame malpractice litigation, paying for indigents, greedy pharmaceutical manufacturers, Obamacare, or wha…[Read more]

I lost an entire hospital, due to them not coming to an agreement with my private insurance. Of course, they didn’t bother telling me that as they decended upon me for my papers while I was in the ER with one of my kids.
This was the closest ER to my house, and I’d used it before. I guess it was my fault for not calling ahead and checking tha…[Read more]
Screwtape – that stinks, because I typed out a pretty long reply out. We need to find somewhere else to hang out…
Ed commented on the post, The Trump Campaign's Latest Effort to Troll the Left Is a $15 Pack of 'Trump Straws' 2 months ago
Who is he trolling, the left, or the idiots who will pay $1.50 (plus tax and shipping) for a $0.03 straw?
I’ll reply here, but if anyone else does, it’ll probably break the chain, so start a new comment.
I wasn’t necessarily talking about a mimumum-wage earner working at the same place for 10 years needing the increase due to time served, but the minimum wage in general. Since the latest increase in minimum wage was in 2009, it has been a fixed…[Read more]
These companies complaining about raising minimum wage and who actually pay the federal minimum wage have had the benefit of the last 10 years of being able to pay their workers without having to adjust for inflation.
They have been benefiting from more and more savings on labor each year since 2009. If their margins are so low that they cannot…[Read more]
I don’t think SA would ever attack Iran because they got nukes. The only country in the Middle East that we should be having arms deals with is Israel. The rest should be free to wipe each other out, if that’s what they want.
Healthcare costs in the US in 2018 were $3.65T. In 2017, they were $3.5T. If we keep going like this, $32.6T in 10 years would be a bargain because with the current system, it’ll probably be closer to $60T in the same timeframe.
While it seems that many folks would rather pay double as long as it comes out of their own wallet instead of p…[Read more]
According to the labor statistics, about 4.9% of workers have more than one job in 2017, the latest data I could find with a few minute’s search. With current labor force statistics, from June ‘19, there were 163M workers. I think it’s a safe bet that many of the multiple-job holders are earners of minimum wage. 4.9% of 163M workers is about…[Read more]
There are a lot of people who live here – legally – who aren’t citizens, yet work, pay taxes, raise children, and contribute more to our society than many of those who hold citizenship. My wife is one of them. It astounds me when I realize that there are a lot of people who assume that one is either a US citizen, or an illegal alien.
My wife m…[Read more]

Out where I live, in Central Texas, it’s the opposite. Vehicle safety inspection once a year, but no emission test. I believe both are required in the more populous counties.
