Actor Mickey Rourke voluntarily surrendered a shotgun, saying he no longer wanted it.
This action is the latest of news events surrounding Rourke, including facing Eviction from a house he is rented in Los Angeles and the subsequent GoFundMe campaign he ultimately denounced,Ā People reported.
The Los Angeles Sheriffās Department said a member of Rourkeās team called Wednesday, perĀ KNBC.
Deputies spoke with Rourke, 73, about the firearm, which was legally registered. They took the gun for safekeeping.
Rourke said he was leaving the area and did not want the firearm.
KNBC reported that if he does not claim the gun after a year, it would be destroyed.
Earlier this month, a GoFundMe campaign was announced in light of news the actor allegedly owes about $61,000 in past-due rent.
Liya-Joelle Jones, who called herself an assistant to Rourkeās manager Kimberly Hines, started the GoFundMe campaign with a goal of $100,000. Donations have been āpausedā after $91,781 was raised.
The fundraiser was titled āHelp Mickey Rourke Stay in His Home. The description claimed that it was ācreated with Mickeyās full permission to help cover immediate housing-related expenses and prevent Eviction.ā
However, Rourke said he had no knowledge of the fundraiser.
In an Instagram post Monday, Rourke stated, āThatās not me, OK?ā
Rourke called it a āhumiliatingā campaign.
āIf I needed money, I wouldnāt ask for no f*****g charity.ā
Rourke said he would ānever ask strangers or fans or anybody for a nickel. Thatās not my style.ā
Hines told āThe Hollywood Reporterā the fundraiser was created by Rourkeās team and he was informed of it. She added he may not have understood at the time.
They have āmoved him out of his houseā and claimed the home had āblack moldā and no running water.
