If you have cable television, there’s a 99% chance that you’ve seen CEO and inventor of MyPillow Mike Lindell touting his patented pillows that will give you “the best sleep of your life.”

Lindell claims that the pillow is a cure-all for almost any sleep problem. Whether it’s snoring, sleep apnea, tossing and turning, waking up in pain— they can be solved with MyPillow.
Commercials explain that “MyPillow helps you get and stay in deep restorative REM sleep all night long” because it “keeps your neck supported and aligned to your exact individual need.”
How does Lindell know? He explains in one commercial, “I had all these problems too.”
One customer testimonial on the company’s website even called MyPillow “a God-send.”
Now, according to NBC, MyPillow has been slapped with a $1 million fine for making claims about what the pillow can do on its commercials and in testimonials without “competent and reliable scientific evidence” to back it up.
Court documents produced by TruthInAdvertising.org list the problems MyPillow claims to cure without sufficient proof, which includes but is not limited to, TMJ, insomnia, snoring, fibromyalgia, and Restless Leg Syndrome. They also assert that MyPillow does not clearly state that their National Sleep Foundation endorsement is not completely based on the merit of the pillow, but appears to be paid for.

The papers submitted to the Superior Court of California read, in part:
“The Defendants also claimed that MyPillow was the ‘Official Bed Pillow’ of the National Sleep Foundation (NSF), without disclosing that a material financial connection existed between the Defendants NSF.”
According to Woman’s Day, MyPillow has also since removed several customer testimonials from its website.
Despite the removal of testimonials, Lindell insists his company’s hands are clean. He tells NBC, “We did nothing wrong. We did not make any misleading claims. Rather than fight this, I made a business decision to prevent long and costly litigation, pay this and move on.”
