NFL Team Wears Soldiers’ Names on Front of Their Jerseys to Make a Powerful Statement

Instead of kneeling to protest like Colin Kaepernick and other athletes around the NFL, the Kansas City Chiefs are celebrating the men and women who give us the freedom to do such things.

While warming up before their game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, players for the Kansas City Chiefs wore a special set of warm-ups as a salute to America’s fallen soldiers.

According to Fox Sports, each member of the team wore a gray sweatshirt that bore the name of an American soldier that lost their life fighting for our freedom.

The Chiefs’ equipment manager, Allen Wright, tells Fox Sports that when he saw the sweatshirts that were labeled for “Salute to Service” week, he knew it was the perfect opportunity to pay their respects to the ones who paid the ultimate price by sacrificing their lives.

Wright also explained that each sweatshirt came with a card detailing the life of the person’s name sewed on to the left side of their chest:

“We had these cards made up that’s a little synopsis of each individual that will go into the players’ locker. They will understand who the person is and who they’re representing so there’s a little bit of connection there.

“The cards will tell each player about where the soldier was from, his or her age and where he or she was killed in action or service.”

According to the Chiefs official website, each service member honored before the game belonged to a “Kansas City Area Gold Star Family.”

The team released the list of 63 fallen soldiers and the player that would be wearing their name on their website:

“There have been over 18,000 service men and women from Kansas and Missouri who made the ultimate sacrifice since World War II. The 63 Gold Star names chosen came from this very long list.”

Despite only 63 names being featured at Sunday’s game, because of the Chiefs’ patriotic gesture, every single fallen serviceman or woman will be in the thoughts and prayers of everyone watching the Kansas City Chiefs this weekend.
