North Korea’s state-run media on Tuesday scoffed at President Donald Trump’s “nuclear button” tweet as the “spasm of a lunatic.”
The state-run paper, Rodong Sinmun, criticized Trump’s tweet from two weeks ago in which the president bragged about having a “bigger” nuclear button than Kim Jong Un, according to the Associated Press. “I too have a Nuclear Button, but it is a much bigger & more powerful one than his, and my Button works!” Trump wrote.
According to Rodong Sinmun, “The spasm of Trump in the new year reflects the desperate mental state of a loser who failed to check the vigorous advance of the army and people of the DPRK.”
“He is making (a) bluff only to be diagnosed as a psychopath.”
North Korea state media has lashed out at the president in the past. After news broke that the United States would redesignate North Korea as a state sponsor of terrorism, a state-run media outlet called the move a “serious provocation and violent infringement.”
North Korea’s comments ratchet up the ongoing conflict with the United States, as Trump works to stifle the rogue nation’s nuclear program.
It also follows a false alarm alerting residents in Hawaii that a nuclear strike was imminent — leading many to panic and take shelter for their lives. A clarifying notice was sent more than 30 minutes after the startling alert, which stated that the alarm was “sent in error and was a false alarm.”
