‘They’re Not Laughing’: GOP Fires Back at SNL for Mocking Injured Navy Seal War Veteran

Pete Davidson and the producers at Saturday Night Live may need to see a doctor after they read the blistering statement the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) put out about their shameful segment mocking war hero Dan Crenshaw for wearing an eye patch.

Crenshaw is a retired Navy SEAL who lost his right eye after being hit by an IED during his third of five overseas deployments. After his military retirement, Crenshaw received his Master’s Degree from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government. He is running for Congress in Texas’s second district.

In a bit where Davidson mocked the “really gross people running for office this year,” the cast member mocked Crenshaw’s appearance.

Watch:

“Dan Crenshaw, no hold on. You may be surprised to hear he’s a congressional candidate from Texas and not a hitman in a porno movie. I’m sorry. I know he lost his eye in war or whatever.”

Davidson wrapped up the bit by referencing his breakup with singer Ariana Grande and asking people to go vote on Tuesday.

This didn’t sit well with the NRCC, who release a scorching statement blasting Davidson and demanding an apology from SNL.

“Getting dumped by your pop star girlfriend is no excuse for lashing out at a decorated war hero who lost his eye serving our country. Pete Davidson and NBC should immediately apologize to Dan, and to the millions of veterans and military families who tune in every weekend – because they’re not laughing.” -NRCC Spokesman Jack Pandol

The NRCC wasn’t alone in their condemnation of Davidson and SNL.

Many were quick to highlight Crenshaw’s amazing story, making it even more clear as to how disgusting Davidson’s comments were.

Crenshaw’s Democratic opponent, Todd Litton, also condemned SNL’s skit, but many believe that the added attention on the Navy SEAL’s congressional bid will likely hurt Litton’s odds.

Cook Political Report shows Crenshaw’s district as “likely Republican.” Voters across the nation will cast their midterm votes on Tuesday.
