Obama DHS Officials Crush Dems’ ‘False’ Narratives on Immigration and Border Crisis: ‘It’s an Emergency’

Obama-era Department of Homeland Security (DHS) officials are destroying the Democrats’ “false” narrative on immigration as the U.S.-Mexico border reaches a “breaking point.”

Former Obama U.S. Border Patrol chief Mark Morgan wrote in a Fox News op-ed on Friday, “I agree the current crisis is not the same as it was in the late 1990s: It’s worse!”

Morgan explained that the increase of immigrants trying to come into the U.S. illegally is a result of “our broken legal framework being exploited by the cartels and migrants.”

“The loopholes in our asylum laws, nonsensical judicial precedent, overwhelmed immigration processes and lack of detention space have helped drive what has devolved essentially into an open-border policy,” he added.

“Central American families are incentivized and rewarded to come and illegally enter our border … It’s simple – they step one foot on American soil, say the magic words under ‘credible fear’ and within a few days they’re allowed into cities all across the U.S. What should sound additional alarms of concern is most of the family members either lack proper identifying documentation or effective vetting of what they do produce is impossible. We know virtually nothing about who we’re letting in! Once in, they are typically never to be heard from again.”

Morgan blasted the “false” narrative of “but they’re fleeing from extreme violence and persecution,” by saying that while over 80 percent of immigrant initially claim credible fear, only 15 percent of claims are actually found to be valid. He noted most of the reason for immigration is economic equality and family reunification.

“There are more than one million illegal immigrants in the U.S. who refuse to comply with deportation orders of removal.”

The second “false” narrative Morgan debunked was: “But the numbers of illegal immigrants are way down so it’s not a crisis.” He suggested raw numbers can be manipulated either way.

See what he’s had to say in the past:

Appearing on “Morning Joe” Friday, former President Barack Obama’s Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson also rebuked the idea there is no crisis at the southern border.

“My staff will tell you if it was under 1,000 apprehensions the day before, that was a relatively good number,” Johnson said of his time in his DHS position. “If it was above 1,000, it was a relatively bad number and I was going to be in a bad mood the whole day.”

“I know that 1,000 overwhelms the system. I can not begin to imagine what 4,000 a day looks like so we are truly in a crisis.”

“It’s time to stop listening to those driven by a personal political ideology and arm yourself with facts, thorough analysis, and the perspective of credible experts,” Morgan challenged critics in his op-ed. “It’s an emergency.”

President Donald Trump vowed on Friday that if Mexico “doesn’t immediately stop all illegal immigration coming into the United States,” he will close sections of the southern border next week, as IJR News reported.
