Ocasio-Cortez Pushes to Impeach Trump but Can’t Give Specifics: ‘Just Meeting the Republican Standard’

Recently elected Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was asked about the possibility of President Donald Trump’s impeachment and whether it was too early to start thinking about starting the process.

“Not to me,” Ocasio-Cortez said.

The politician pointed to the Russia investigation and Michael Cohen’s false statements to Robert Mueller as reasons for impeachment. She also pointed to former President Bill Clinton’s impeachment, mentioning that Trump shouldn’t be held to a different standard.

“I’ve been supportive of impeachment for some time now so I think it just adds to the case,” Ocasio-Cortez said. “I mean, it’s just, this is ridiculous. This is outrageous. In 1998, the entire Republican Party decides to impeach Bill Clinton over what standard? And the fact that they have to raise that standard to go above and beyond.”

Watch:

She claimed that during the Clinton impeachment, the Republican party pushed the limits of what could qualify as impeachment.

“They’re the ones that established that standard for impeachment so we are just really meeting the Republican standard,” said Ocasio-Cortez.

When the democratic socialist was asked to give specific examples of what standard has been exceeded that would mean starting the impeachment process, she could not give specific answers.

“Well, I just think, overall, when you look at the broad stroke they took, how far they would take it, and how granularly they would dig into that process.”

Calls for impeachment are extremely serious and should include specific examples of the person in question, not individual actions of their lawyer or people that have been connected to them.

It’s really sad that someone with no brain can actually get elected into office. I guess the democrats were really desperate with this one.
