Ocasio-Cortez Doubles Down on Jesus, Migrant Comparison — She’s Suggesting Lax Enforcement Is ‘True Love’

When Rep.-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) received a lot of backlash after she called Jesus Christ a refugee, she apparently didn’t think her critics had valid arguments.

In a tweet posted on Christmas night, Ocasio-Cortez seemed to double down with a photo that mimicked religious iconography of Jesus with his mother Mary and father Joseph.

In the text of her tweet, Ocasio-Cortez implied that Christian love meant relaxed immigration enforcement:

True love is radical because it requires us to see ourselves in all people. Otherwise, it isn’t love.

Love is revolutionary because it has us treat ALL people as we would ourselves – not because we are charitable, but because we are one.

That is love’s radical inclusion.

Her comments came amid broader criticism of President Donald Trump’s immigration agenda and, in particular, the way he confronted the controversial migrant caravan approaching the southern border. Some suggested his administration betrayed Christian principles through its immigration policy:

But according to Father Frank Pavone of Priests for Life, those types of criticisms were generally off-base.

“The Bible does not have an immigration policy,” Pavone told IJR during an interview. Pavone clarified that while the Bible affirmed migrants’ inherent dignity as persons, it also emphasized the importance of borders.

“The idea of borders and the idea of nations having borders is very biblical,” he asserted. Politicians, Pavone argued, should exercise prudence and consider more than just “welcoming the stranger” when creating immigration policy. Pavone added that civil authorities rightfully possessed the discretion to make specific decisions about how to handle situations like migrant crises.

He also pointed to the Catholic Catechism, which reads (emphasis added):

The more prosperous nations are obliged, to the extent they are able, to welcome the foreigner in search of the security and the means of livelihood which he cannot find in his country of origin. Public authorities should see to it that the natural right is respected that places a guest under the protection of those who receive him.

Political authorities, for the sake of the common good for which they are responsible, may make the exercise of the right to immigrate subject to various juridical conditions, especially with regard to the immigrants’ duties toward their country of adoption. Immigrants are obliged to respect with gratitude the material and spiritual heritage of the country that receives them, to obey its laws and to assist in carrying civic burdens.

In a statement on Wednesday, Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen decried how the nation’s immigration system reached a “breaking point.”

As IJR previously noted, the southern border has seen a dramatic increase in unlawful entries in recent months. DHS data also revealed that the vast majority of asylum claims are rejected by a judge and that only 31 percent of asylum seekers actually return for their hearings.

You assholes CANNOT have it both ways. Either you hate and oppose all Christian teachings or you follow this thing called the 1st amendment. Oh wait, you voted against that in 2014 AND morons like Ted Lieu still believe speech should be controlled.

Fascist much you power-hungry, wealthy elitist Dimocrats?

Am I the only one to see the complete irony and hypocrisy of an avowed Socialist using religion to promote her agenda?

Especially in light of her Dim colleagues DiFi, Kamalalala, and Mazie using (Christian) beliefs to pillory Amy Coney Barrett and other judicial candidates? q.v “the dogma is strong in this one”–Feinstein

No, you’re in good company Screw. Irony and hypocrisy attendant to her daily promo tour is not lost on the great many of us. Cheap Trick’s Gonna Raise Hell is playing around in my head (and I hate the song) when thinking of this badly uninformed congresswoman, who with a whopping total of some 16000 votes seems to think she has a mandate for all time. It concerns me that she has no idea of what she doesn’t know; smart people know the more they know the more there is to know. That’s not her.

She’s the “it” girl of the Dims (how appropriate) and wrong in so many ways.

She politicizes the most celebrated holiday in the world and does so wrongly, but considering her ignorance in economics and international relations (her nominal degrees) this is no surprise. I didn’t see “theology” listed anywhere in her resume and I suspect she missed a lot of Sunday school.

Mary and Joseph were CITIZENS obeying the laws of Herod under Roman rule traveling to take part in a LEGALLY required census. Notice the “obeying laws” part, which is something illegals completely ignore.

Jesus was not yet born. We know how Dimocrats feel about children in the womb. q.v. their support of PP and NARAL. So now an unborn child counts as a “person” , i.e refugee? Absolute hypocrisy noted.

Yes, she’s an endlessy amusing moron.

Herod’s motive was personal.

…since it also spilled into his wanting to hold power I’d also argue it was political. Since he also ordered infanticide, maybe he was a proto-Dimocrat?

His infanticide was, as you said, political to hold power. His killing of children did not extend to those who were not yet born.

She sounds more ridiculous each time she talks. DC will change chew her up, hopefully. Unless Schumer or Pelosi takes her under their tired old wings. I’m not a Catholic but the Catechism sure sounds worth honoring. She should spend more time in church and less trying to create her own religion.

Matthew 22 (KJV)
36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law?
37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
38 This is the first and great commandment.
39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

From Verse 39 AOC likened it to open borders.
