Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) does not want leaders to call her “AOC.”
She put her foot down on Twitter following Thursday night’s debate where President Donald Trump referred to her as “AOC.”
“I wonder if Republicans understand how much they advertise their disrespect of women in debates when they consistently call women members of Congress by nicknames or first names while using titles last names when referring to men of = stature,” she wrote. “Women notice. It conveys a lot.”
She continued to note that those in the community and “the people” can call her “AOC,” but not government colleagues. The New York lawmaker said government colleagues, “who don’t know me like that,” should call her “Congresswoman” or “Representative.”
“Basic respect 101,” she wrote.
She wrote in another tweet, “If someone told me 3 years ago, while I was waitressing to help my family stay afloat, that in a few short years an unhinged President of the United States would be repeatedly saying my name at the 2020 debate, I would’ve brought them some water and told them to sober up.”
During the last presidential debate before Election Day, Trump took aim at Ocasio-Cortez and a few of her colleagues — Reps. Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.), Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), and Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.).
The president, referring to Biden’s climate plan, said, “You know who developed it? AOC plus three.”
He added, “They know nothing about the climate. I mean she’s got a good line of stuff, but she knows nothing about the climate, and they’re all hopping through hoops for AOC plus three. Not a real plan. It costs $100 trillion.”

Similarly, Ocasio-Cortez slammed Vice President Mike Pence for calling her “AOC” during the vice-presidential debate, as IJR reported.
“For the record , it’s Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez to you,” she tweeted in response.
