Omar Erupts At State Of The Union, Calls Trump A ‘Murderer’ During Heated Outburst

WASHINGTON, DC - FEBRUARY 24: Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) (L) and Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) shout at U.S. President Donald Trump as he delivers his State of the Union address during a Joint Session of Congress at the U.S. Capitol on February 24, 2026, in Washington, DC. Trump delivered his address days after the Supreme Court struck down the administration's tariff strategy and amid a U.S. military buildup in the Persian Gulf threatening Iran. A tense moment unfolded inside the House chamber when Rep. Ilhan Omar repeatedly interrupted President Donald Trump, shouting accusations as he addressed Congress.

According to Fox News, the disruption came after Trump referenced Somali-linked fraud in Minnesota, drawing visible reactions from Democrats seated on their side of the aisle.

Omar, sitting beside Rep. Rashida Tlaib, could be heard yelling “You’re a liar” and “you are a murderer” while the president spoke about funding for the Department of Homeland Security and border security.

Trump had been criticizing Democrats over what he described as cuts to Homeland Security funding and a shutdown, telling lawmakers, “The first duty of the American government is to protect American citizens, not illegal aliens.”

The camera later panned toward Omar during the commotion as voices rose in the chamber.

Tlaib also joined the protests at one point, shouting, “Alex wasn’t a criminal,” an apparent reference to Alex Pretti, an armed man shot by federal agents during unrest in Minneapolis.

Trump continued his remarks and addressed Democrats directly, saying, “Isn’t that a shame? You should be ashamed of yourself not standing up.”

Omar continued to interject as he spoke about immigration enforcement and sanctuary cities, again repeating, “You have killed Americans.”

Some in the gallery said it was unclear whether she also used a profane term, but her accusations of “liar” were clearly audible.

The Minnesota lawmaker and Tlaib later left the chamber before the speech concluded, departing while Trump was recounting a raid in Caracas that resulted in the capture of Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro.

The back-and-forth marked one of several disruptions during the address, underscoring the deep partisan divide in the room as Trump continued speaking despite the protests.
