The Omarosa Manigault Newman Image Rehabilitation Tour continued this week on CBS’s “Celebrity Big Brother.”
The former White House employee and Donald Trump confidante made headlines last week when she told one of her castmates that the president’s tweets “haunted” her while she worked in the administration, and that the country should be terrified of him.
This week, she walked it back in a way, by revealing the person the country should fear even more: Trump’s vice president, Mike Pence. From CNN:
“Can I just say this? As bad as y’all think Trump is, you would be worried about Pence,” Manigault Newman told her housemates seated around her. She continued, “We would be begging for days of Trump back if Pence became President, that’s all I’m saying. He’s extreme.”
She went on to say that Pence believes Jesus tells him what to say, which Manigault Newman thinks is “scary.” Why it is any scarier than pretty much anything Trump has ever said is anyone’s guess.
Manigault Newman’s sudden decision that Pence is actually the most dangerous man in the White House makes one wonder if she came to regret insulting Trump when the episode was filmed. And in a case of what is either people in the administration trying to punish her or one heck of a coincidence, two stories appeared Tuesday painting her in a terrible light.
First, anonymous sources told Politico that Manigault Newman was originally fired by chief of staff John Kelly for misusing CARPET, a service of the White House Transportation Agency. CARPET is tasked with supporting the president by providing drivers and vehicles for his motorcades, among other functions. Apparently Manigault Newman was using it as a car service, a sort of federally funded and operated Uber, which is strictly forbidden.
At the same time, Trump supporter Piers Morgan published a gossipy column in the Daily Mail. In it, he accuses Manigault Newman of turning on him when both appeared on “The Apprentice,” and he turned down her offer of a fake romance to stir up publicity. He also accuses her of homophobia and says he never met anyone quite so “relentlessly loathsome.” This is all in the service of asking why Trump ever hired her for a job in such an important building as the White House in the first place.
It looks as if Manigault Newman has a ways to go before this rehab tour works its magic.
