One Gun Owner Thinks Destroying His AR-15 Will Help Stop Gun Violence

One gun owner has had enough of the shootings that have taken place in the U.S., and he has now taken a drastic measure most gun owners would find puzzling: destroying his AR-15.

WFLA reports that Chad Vachter once considered his $3,000 AR-15 assault rifle to be a prized possession. But after the mass shootings in Sutherland Springs, Texas, and Las Vegas, he now considers the rifle too dangerous to have in his home.

“I can’t do it,” he told WFLA. “I can’t have something in my house that so easily could become a part of another situation like that, and I’m not going to be desensitized to it. I refuse to.”

Vachter destroyed the rifle with his sledgehammer.

“The other night, when I read the thing about the school in northern California, I cried and I haven’t felt good since,” he added. “And although I’m still sad for all those victims and all the people affected, I feel like I’ve done the only thing that I can do in this equation. Even if it’s just a small thing, I did my part to make things better.”

While Vachter is no longer a fan of the AR-15, he says he still supports the Second Amendment and plans on keeping his other firearms.
