O’Rourke Doubles Down on Claim That ‘We Will Lose This Democracy Forever’ If Trump Doesn’t Go to Prison

2020 Democratic hopeful and former Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-Texas) isn’t letting up on his distaste for President Donald Trump, as he doubles down that the president must be pursued with impeachment or else the U.S. will lose democracy.

While trying to wrangle in her Democratic colleagues’ calls to initiate impeachment proceedings, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) had another suggestion for Trump — as she reportedly said she’d “want to see him in prison.”

When confronted about Pelosi’s remark during Sunday’s ABC “This Week,” O’Rourke bluntly said the president “did” commit crimes that could be prosecuted.

“I think that’s clear from what we have learned from the Mueller report, but I think those crimes might extend beyond what we’ve seen in the Mueller report,” O’Rourke said, suggesting other alleged crimes by the president.

Congressional Democrats have upped the pressure for Trump’s impeachment after Special Counsel Robert Mueller publicly concluded his Russia investigation, leaving no new facts from the report and no charges one way or the other on obstruction of justice.

O’Rourke — who previously said Congress must “act now or lose our democracy forever” — echoed his claim on Sunday, saying:

“If we do not hold the president accountable, we will have set the precedent that some people in this country […] are in fact above the law and if we do that, we will lose this democracy forever. So regardless of the popularity of the idea or what the polling shows us, we must proceed with impeachment so that we get the facts and the truth and at the end of the day, there is justice for what was done to democracy.”

As IJR Red previously noted, a Harvard Survey poll found 68 percent of the respondents saying Democrats should move on from Mueller’s report, with only 37 percent in support of the Democrats’ push for impeachment.

Watch O’Rourke’s comments below:

Even though O’Rourke claims “we must proceed with impeachment so that we get the facts,” Congress needs facts to begin impeachment proceedings. One Democratic senator even declared the impeachment calls are “premature” because they have “got to get the information.”

On another note, O’Rourke is dropping heavily in the polls, as he’s sitting in sixth place, 3.8 points, among several other Democratic presidential candidates.

It’s as simple as this Beto with your stupid excuse for a name if he truly broke the law the Democrats would have gone for the throat they didn’t so he clearly didn’t break any laws. He may have done things you career politicians didn’t approve of but clearly it was within his rights under the laws we all should abide by yet the rich and connected never have let’s not pretend like there was ever a period in this country or this planet where things were equal and everyone was treated fairly legally.

“If we do not hold the president accountable, we will have set the precedent that some people in this country […] are in fact above the law and if we do that, we will lose this democracy forever. Well if that’s the case they already lost our democracy during the Obama Administration……….Lois Lerner, Erick Holder, Loretta Lynch, Hillary Clinton, Brennan, Panetta, Comey, Page, Strzok, the six people who violated the Hatch Act, and Obama himself broke the law 78 times during Fast and Furious alone! John Kerry violated the Logan Act. The Obama Administration was caught leaking classified information, lobbying… Read more »

Notice O’Rourke’s jerky movements, somewhat like a puppet. We need to discover who is pulling his strings.
He appears to be concerned about all the poor people seeking asylum. He doesn’t appear to be concerned with the millions of homeless and poverty-stricken already here.
He reminds me of the 6th-grader who promised free ice cream to the class if she was elected. She did not have the money for the ice cream; she just wanted the votes.

My God! Did Soros offer up a billion dollar prize for the stupidest statement made by a demorat or something? They seem to be having a contest to see who can be the most annoying, hypocritical, dishonest jackass in the party.
