‘The American People Deserve to Hear the Truth’: Pelosi and Schumer Call on Mueller to Testify

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and House Majority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) released a joint statement on Thursday morning calling for special counsel Robert Mueller to testify before Congress.

The Democratic leaders said, based on Attorney General William Barr‘s “regrettably partisan handling of the Mueller report,” the special counsel’s testifying in the House and Senate is “the only way to begin restoring public trust.”

The statement lays out examples of Barr’s conduct that Pelosi and Schumer object to, listing “his slanted March 24th summary letter, his irresponsible testimony before Congress last week, and his indefensible plan to spin the report in a press conference later this morning — hours before he allows the public or Congress to see it.”

Pelosi and Schumer then stated these actions have “resulted in a crisis of confidence in his independence and impartiality.”

The Democratic leaders continued to argue the only way to resolve this is by having Mueller testify “as soon as possible.”

“We believe the only way to begin restoring public trust in the handling of the Special Counsel’s investigation is for Special Counsel Mueller himself to provide public testimony in the House and Senate as soon as possible,” the statement reads, emphasizing the importance of hearing directly from Mueller himself.

“The American people deserve to hear the truth,” the statement concluded.

Asked for his thoughts on a potential congressional testimony from Mueller, Barr stated at his Thursday press conference that he has “no objection to Robert Mueller personally testifying.”

Barr also dismissed concerns about Mueller’s absence from the Thursday press conference, saying that the final report was “a report he did for me, as the attorney general.”

Why stop there?
I want to see Loretta Lynch and the Obama-ites, all testify.
They were all in, on the spying and Russian collusion as well.
