House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) has a long resume of protecting vulnerable citizens, “expand[ing] access to health care,” and leading the most “diverse Congress in history,” and she just added “John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award” winner to her bountiful list of accomplishments.

At the ceremony in Boston’s John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum on Sunday, Pelosi was the star of the night, as she was showered in praises by multiple speakers from the Kennedy family, including Caroline Kennedy, the daughter of former President JFK.

“[Speaker] Pelosi has acted in service of our highest principles and our most vulnerable citizens. She has suffered defeats, but has never given up,” said Kennedy. “Thanks to her courage we have healthcare for all Americans and the most diverse Congress in American history.”

The late president’s daughter continued to honor Pelosi for her courage in never backing down to fight the “Trump administration’s assault on the rule of law.”

“I’m overwhelmed by the honor of it all,” Pelosi said as she described how humbled she was to be chosen for the award. “Never did I expect that, as Speaker of the House, I would be given this Profile in Courage Award,” she added, telling the story of her attendance of the former president’s inauguration on a “freezing, thrilling day” in college.

She went on to tell the story of our country, as she honored the courage of the early “immigrants,” “pioneers,” “heroes,” of the U.S. — including her father, Thomas D’Alesandro, Jr. — who was sworn into the Kennedy administration to serve on the Federal Renegotiation Board.

“It was not arrogance, but courage, that launched this historic experiment in democracy: the United States of America,” Pelosi proclaimed.

The speaker went on to emphasize that “courage is in the DNA of America: courage, and the optimism and hope that go with it, which are the shaping spirits of the American experience.”

“The times have found us to strengthen America,” she said, praising America’s resilience.

“It is not about politics — it is about patriotism,” Pelosi then added, speaking on her resistance to the Trump administration.

Despite her portrayed humility, Pelosi is no stranger from receiving honors for her work as House Speaker, as she was recently praised in the “Time 100” list of most influential people when Hillary Clinton called her the “driving force” of the Democratic Party.
