According to recent reports, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi had some harsh words when discussing whether she wanted to move forward with President Donald Trump’s impeachment during a meeting on Tuesday night.
The meeting was with other Democratic representatives to decide their impeachment strategy, with Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.) requesting to open an inquiry against Trump, according to a report by Politico.
Pelosi allegedly responded, “I don’t want to see him impeached, I want to see him in prison.”
As IJR Red previously reported, Pelosi has been reluctant to make calls for impeachment, choosing instead to call for more investigations. However, this meeting may signify a change as other Democrats grow desperate to start the impeachment process.
Pelosi spokeswoman Ashley Etienne told Politico the speaker and Nadler “had a productive meeting about the state of play with the Mueller report. They agreed to keep all options on the table and continue to move forward with an aggressive hearing and legislative strategy, as early as next week, to address the president’s corruption and abuses of power uncovered in the report.”
On Wednesday while speaking with reporters, Pelosi claimed that the Democratic party was not divided on the issue.
“Make no mistake, we know exactly what path we’re on. We know exactly what actions we need to take,” Pelosi said.
As IJR Red previously reported, Pelosi has made other comments that seem to suggest she might be changing her opinion on impeachment, recently claiming that Trump is “crying out for impeachment.”
Watch her recent impeachment comments below:
While Pelosi has denied that Democrats are divided, some have spoken out that they hope to avoid moving forward with impeachment before they have all the facts. Republicans have constantly criticized Democratic lawmakers for focusing on impeachment and accomplishing little so far as the majority party.
