Vice President Mike Pence is tearing into House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) for her actions at the end of Tuesday night’s State of the Union address.

Pelosi sparked a lot of conversation after she held President Donald Trump’s speech up at the end of his remarks and proceeded to tear it up on Tuesday evening, as IJR reported.

Pence — who was next to Pelosi at the address — told Fox News on Wednesday that he did not see the House speaker rip up the president’s address during the moment but called it “a new low” for her.

“I was not sure she was ripping up the speech or ripping up the Constitution,” Pence added.

“The contrast here was a president who spent an hour and a half making a speech about America and Nancy Pelosi, in the final moments, tried to make it about her and I think the American people see through it and see through the pettiness and see through the politics.”

The vice president continued to say he “felt like” Pelosi knew ahead of time she would be tearing up the speech.

The White House’s official Twitter account wrote after the moment of Pelosi, “Speaker Pelosi just ripped up: One of our last surviving Tuskegee Airmen. The survival of a child born at 21 weeks. The mourning families of Rocky Jones and Kayla Mueller. A service member’s reunion with his family. That’s her legacy.”

Pelosi’s actions had people split on their reactions with some Democratic lawmakers applauding the House speaker’s move, including Rep. Rashida Tlaib who tweeted, “I would have shredded it.”

The following day of the State of the Union address, the hashtag “Nancy the ripper” trended on Twitter.

The top Democratic House leader, however, didn’t back down from her clear disapproval of Trump and his address.

She reportedly told Democratic lawmakers in a closed-door meeting on Wednesday, “He shredded the truth, so I shredded his speech. … You are supposed to talk about the state of the union, not the state of your alleged mind,” as The Hill reports.
