For the First Family’s second year in the White House for Christmas, U.S. first lady Melania Trump shared her Christmas design, but the reveal also came with some backlash as people were horrified over red Christmas trees.
Days after Thanksgiving, Trump revealed rooms of the White House sparkling with ornaments, trees, and 12,000 bows with her “American Treasures” theme that honors a unique heritage of the U.S.

“This is a joyous time of year when we decorate the White House for the Christmas Season,” Trump said in a statement as she revealed the Christmas decorations.
“Our theme honors the heart and spirit of the American people. Thank you to the many volunteers and staff who worked hard to decorate the halls of the People’s House in Christmas cheer. On behalf of my family, we wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.”
However, some people put aside the first lady’s honoring theme that shows the “heart and spirit of the American people.”
People bashed Trump’s decorations in a hall filled with red Christmas trees:

#Melania and her blood red #Christmas trees. This looks like a scene out of the shining or some gothic tale where the trees weep blood. A real life nightmare before Christmas. Now we know where the gates of Hell are located. #MondayMorning pic.twitter.com/2l5Sji6uvc

If they decorated for Christmas in Handmaid's Tale, it would be with these trees.

Trump’s holiday decorations in the hallway of the East Wing of the White House last year also drew criticism from people:

Despite the criticism, the first lady’s intentions and theme of her Christmas decorations were centered around “patriotism,” as it honored troops, national symbols, and represented U.S. states and territories.

One detail of Trump’s Christmas decorations included ornaments for her “Be Best” initiative, which encourages young children to follow their best path in life — the initiative is based on three pillars: well-being, social media use, and opioid abuse.
