Amid the growing number of Democratic politicians who were sent suspicious packages that were believed to be bombs, actor Robert De Niro also received one addressed to the building that houses his production company restaurant.
“I thank God no one’s been hurt, and I thank the brave and resourceful security and law enforcement people for protecting us,” he said in a statement that his representative, Stan Rosenfield, issued. “There’s something more powerful than bombs, and that’s your vote. People MUST vote!”
What De Niro has in common with the other targets of the bombs is that he’s a critic of President Donald Trump. He’s spoken out multiple time against the president, most notably giving a short speech littered with expletives at the Tony Awards earlier this year.
“I’m gonna say one thing: f**k Trump”, De Niro said before introducing Bruce Springsteen. “It’s no longer down with Trump, it’s f**k Trump.” The Tony Awards audience gave De Niro a standing ovation.

Trump responded on Twitter, bashing the actor for his intelligence.
“Robert De Niro, a very low IQ individual, has received too many shots to the head by real boxers in movies,” the president tweeted. “I watched him last night and truly believe her may be ‘punch-drunk.’ I guess he doesn’t realize the economy is the best it’s ever been with employment being at an all time high, and many companies pouring back into our country. Wake up Punchy!”
