Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) was targeted by a âswattingâ incident due to her views on transgenderism, according to a report.
On Wednesday morning, the Georgia Congresswoman tweeted, âLast night, I was swatted just after 1 am.â
Greeneâs tweet refers to the practice of âswatting,â which Cambridge Dictionary describes as âthe action of making a false report of a serious emergency so that a SWAT team (a group of officers trained to deal with dangerous situations) will go to a personâs home, by someone who wants to frighten, upset, or cause problems for that person.â
The Rome News-Tribune reported, citing a Rome Police Department report, âRome police officers responded to a 911 call on Wednesday at 01:03 a.m. which led them to initially believe a man who had been shot multiple times in the bathtub at Greeneâs home. The caller also stated there was a woman inside the home and possibly children with her. When officers responded Greene assured the officers there was no issue at the home.â
The police report states, âAfter we cleared the call and went back in service, Rome-Floyd 911 received a call from the suspect, claiming responsibility for the incident and explaining his/her motives.â
âIt was a computer generated voice. They explained they were upset about Ms. Greeneâs stance on âtrans-gender youthâs rights,â and stated they were trying to âswatâ her,â it added.
Nick Dyer, a spokesman for the lawmaker, told the paper, âRight now, Congresswoman Greeneâs safety is our number one concern.â
âLate last night, she was a victim of a political attack on her family and home. Whoever committed this violent crime will face the full extent of the law,â he added.
Greene shared the story and wrote on Twitter, âIf this is the war the left wants, this is the war the left will get. I will never stop protecting children and defending their innocence.â
âWe have to immediately pass H.R. 8731, the Protect Childrenâs Innocence Act, to end the mutilation of kids,â she added.
The incident comes days after Greene introduced a bill that would make it a felony to perform âgender-affirming careâ on minors.
The bill states that anyone who âknowingly performs any gender-affirming care on a minor is guilty of a class C felony.â
The Hill notes that it carries a punishment of 10-25 years in prison and a maximum fine of $250,000.
It prohibits over a dozen medical interventions, including certain surgeries carried out âfor the purpose of changing the body of such individual to correspond to a sex that differs from their biological sexâ for young people, as well as the administration of puberty-blocking drugs, according to the outlet.
During a segment on Fox Newsâ âTucker Carlson Tonightâ Thursday, Greene argued, âWhen it comes to âgender-affirming care,â which is really child abuse, this is actually an assault, and itâs child abuse.â
âThis practice should never happen. Itâs so disgusting and appalling. And itâs an embarrassment to our country,â she added.
