During Monday’s White House press briefing, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer brushed off a reporter’s question regarding President Donald Trump’s travel costs due to his frequent trips to Mar-a-Lago in Florida.
With it having just been announced that Trump had kept his promise to donate his presidential salary back to the government, Time Magazine’s Zeke Miller asked whether POTUS would also be looking into reimbursing the government for the cost of travel and security to Mar-a-Lago.
Spicer explained that a scheduled trip to Florida later this month was requested by the Chinese government and that it’s a “very high level visit that really has a huge impact on our economic and national security.” The press secretary then noted that Miller was asking this question on the same day Trump donated his salary.
“So respectfully,” Spicer stated. “At what point does he do enough. He gave a sizable donation.”
The White House spokesman then added that the president “isn’t taking a salary” and has “walked away from a lot.”
