The fact-checking outlet Politifact is facing some backlash after it deemed President Donald Trump’s statements on late-term abortion false.
During his campaign rally in North Carolina Monday night, President Trump referenced the controversial statements Governor Ralph Northam (D-Va.) made while explaining his support for late-term abortions.
Trump criticized support for late-term abortions by reiterating the story Northam told about the mother giving birth and then deciding what to do with the child — while the baby is still alive outside the womb.
Politifact linked to a fact check posted in February and explained that they had rated Trump’s claims about late-term abortion false.
Trump says VA gov Ralph Northam talked about “after the baby was born the Dr will talk to the mother and make a decision about whether the baby lives.” We rated his similar claim about abortion False. https://t.co/Z0um1PLY1j pic.twitter.com/GkBFqEHxX4

It didn’t take long before Politifact was flooded with replies that included the original footage of Northam on WTOP confirming Trump’s statement.
Watch Northam’s comments:
VA gov on abortion this morning:
“If a mother is in labor…the infant would be delivered. The infant would be kept comfortable. The infant would be resuscitated if that’s what the mother and the family desired, and then a discussion would ensue between the physicians & mother" pic.twitter.com/cc15pVLjIQ

“When we talk about third-trimester abortions, these are done with the consent of obviously the mother with the concent of the physicians — more than one physician, by the way. And it’s done in cases where there may be severe deformities, there may be a fetus that is non-viable. So in this particular example, if a mother is in labor, I can tell you exactly what would happen. The infant would be delivered. The infant would be kept comfortable. The infant would be resuscitated if that’s what the mother and the family desired, and then a discussion would ensue between the physicians and the mothers.”
Several people called out Politifact for “gaslighting” with its misleading fact-check, even though there is video evidence to confirm Trump’s statements.
Because Gov. Blackface Abortham only said on video that the Dr and mother would discuss whether they’d let the baby continue living after being born and did not specifically say “execute” Politifact moves the goalposts and says it is false. Seriously. https://t.co/mBnVikQBeD

Politifact is straight up gas lighting. Their own article quotes Northam saying what they say he didn't say. pic.twitter.com/2zWOHhuNOJ

Northam’s comments on abortion came just days before an old yearbook photo resurfaced showing the governor’s page with a photo of one man in a Ku Klux Klan robe and another in blackface. The governor admitted to wearing blackface on a separate occasion but denied being in the yearbook photo.
Northam is still governor of Virginia, despite calls for his resignation.
