Following former Vice President Joe Biden’s hints that he might run for president in 2020, a poll indicated that he would likely beat President Donald Trump if he ran for re-election.
While only 35 percent of voters would vote to re-elect Trump, 46 percent would vote Biden into office. That 11-point margin was less than the 14 points voters gave a generic Democrat over Trump in a previous poll, according to Politico’s Morning Consult.
The margin among independents was even larger, with 41 percent saying they would vote for Biden and only 26 percent throwing their support behind Trump.
In an interview with Oprah Winfrey, Biden revealed that he regretted not being president and that he thought in 2016 that he was the most qualified person for the job. Biden eventually decided not to run out of concern for his family.
Last week, however, a report surfaced indicating that Biden was privately considering a run for president. Biden reportedly saw his candidacy as a way to unite the now-fractured Democratic Party.
