President Donald Trump is showing police officers across the country his appreciation for their unwavering and brave service.
“Those brave men and women selflessly confront danger to protect our families and defend our communities. We also honor those in blue who have been killed or disabled in the line of duty. We are especially mindful of the tremendous sacrifices of the 106 heroes who laid down their lives last year while protecting their communities.”
Trump attended the 38th annual National Peace Officers’ Memorial Service at the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday — which falls on “Peace Officers Memorial Day,” designated during John F. Kennedy’s presidency — to honor officers, 228, killed in the line of duty in 2018.
The courage & sacrifice of our heroes is the reason our flag stands tall, our hearts beat with pride, and our Country remains one people, one family, and one NATION UNDER GOD. Today, we thank you, we honor you, & we forever cherish the memory of our Fallen Men and Women in Blue! pic.twitter.com/ARHYgDVi3M

Speaking at Wednesday’s ceremony, Trump vowed to “never, ever” leave the side of those in blue uniform, in honor of fallen officers.
“These brave heroes did not put on the uniform for praise or for glory. They wore the badge because it was their duty, their calling, their noble purpose to serve, protect like nobody has ever done it before. They embodied our highest ideals and greatest aspirations.”
“We stand firmly, strongly, and proudly with the incredible men and women of law enforcement,” the president declared.

Additionally, the president made it clear that he believes criminals who kill police officers “should immediately with trial get the death penalty.”
As IJR Red reported, Republican lawmakers praised law enforcement officers’ “heroic actions,” including Vice President Mike Pence, who tweeted on Monday, “God bless our fallen heroes, their families, & all of our courageous law enforcement today, & every day!”
