Rand Paul’s Wife Calls Out Cory Booker in Scathing Op-Ed About the Threats Her Family Has Received

In an op-ed for CNN, Kelley Paul, the wife of Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), called out Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) for his comments about getting up in the face of Republicans.

Paul said such rhetoric is dangerous, especially since a neighbor attacked her husband while he was mowing the lawn and the family has continually received threats from people.

“It’s nine o’clock at night, and as I watch out the window, a sheriff’s car slowly drives past my home. I am grateful that they have offered to do extra patrols, as someone just posted our home address, and Rand’s cell number, on the internet — all part of a broader effort to intimidate and threaten Republican members of Congress and their families,” Paul wrote.

She added:

I now keep a loaded gun by my bed. Our security systems have had to be expanded. I have never felt this way in my life.

Paul described the number of threats they have received as a “horrifying level”:

In the last 18 months, our family has experienced violence and threats of violence at a horrifying level. I will never forget the morning of the shooting at the congressional baseball practice, the pure relief and gratitude that flooded me when I realized that Rand was okay.

He was not okay last November, when a violent and unstable man attacked him from behind while he was working in our yard, breaking six ribs and leaving him with lung damage and multiple bouts of pneumonia.

Paul also called out members of the media and other politicians for making fun of the assault:

Kentucky’s secretary of state, Alison Lundergan Grimes, recently joked about it in a speech. MSNBC commentator Kasie Hunt laughingly said on air that Rand’s assault was one of her “favorite stories.” Cher, Bette Midler, and others have lauded his attacker on Twitter. I hope that these women never have to watch someone they love struggle to move or even breathe for months on end.

“I would call on you to retract your statement. I would call on you to condemn violence, the leaking of elected officials’ personal addresses (our address was leaked from a Senate directory given only to senators), and the intimidation and threats that are being hurled at them and their families,” Paul wrote to Booker.

  1. Our gov has done nothing to curb these violent threats and actions. All those calling for physical actions, like Maximoonbeam, should be jailed, or at the very least, removed from office. There’s been NO outcry from members of our gov regarding this nonsense. Start arresting, mass arresting, violent protesters and make it clear that their record will show domestic terrorism–see how many jobs offers you’ll get with that little blip on your records. Enough is enough and ALL Ds, Is and Rs should denounce ALL violence against duly elected representatives.

    • I agree with the call for everyone to denounce violence and expand it to violence against ANYONE, not just elected representatives. Before the extremists on both sides will HEAR us, the rhetoric and fear mongering would need to stop so we can be heard. The selling of fear is a huge money maker and attention-getter in America. It is going to take more than arrests to restore sanity and civility to America. But it starts with each of us.

  2. Cory Booger and his ilk are part of what is wrong with American politics theses days. Disagreement should not be backed up by violence. Hell, if ‘we’ want that, then re-legalize dueling.
If we do that, shoot like Burr; Ask Alexander Hamilton. Even the old school La Cosa Nostra didn’t go after the ‘civilians’ in the family.

  3. Mrs. Paul wrote a very well written letter. How sad is this that she was put in the position to ask a Senator to back off. Mr Booker should not even be a Senator. He did admit to sexual abuse himself. The comments coming from him are disgraceful . Why is he a Senator?? Get rid of Booker, he is unfit. And my sincerest sympathies to the Rand family for this abuse.

  4. The vitriol and publishing home addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses is totally disgusting no matter what side of the aisle. I am happy no Republicans have called for violence. This level of hate is destructive. Get yourselves to church and learn why the founding fathers based their decisions according to God’s word.

    • Those Republicans started this whole crap way of politics when Newt Gringricht came to town!! The Republicans went down lower each year! WhenBama came to town, the racist republic started again. Wouldn’t fill smal court seats as well as large.wouldn’t do anything. Wouldn’t pass legislation, confirm appoints, just horrible people. Got Trump for a pres and started using him as their puppet!! Can’t wait for another 2yrs! What they have in last two will pale in next two if people don’t vote BLUE!! Gotta to get this mess stopped now!! Got to get back into control. Before Hitler does more damage with his minions.

  5. Kelley, thank you for such an articulate letter to Cory Booker and other Senators. Kelley, Rand, And Family, I am so sorry for all of your pain. Not only have all of we the peoples’ Government got no morals, America’s soul has no morals. Shame on America!

  6. This is not the Democrat party of John Kennedy. This party will do anything for power. It applauds Antifa when they riot against Conservative speech, they encourage uncivil behavior toward anyone that doesn’t follow completely their stand on the issues that they think will keep them in power. They are willing to destroy anyone that gets in their way. They prefer anarchy to a government they can’t control, and people they can’t control. I value the freedoms I have today, and cannot in good conscience vote for any Democrat at this point in time.

  7. These are the reason we can not let the left take over the country. The left has no platform but hate and violence. .Vote GOP and save our country

  8. We are seeing the same actions that was done in the French Revolution. Mob rule is a very dangerous situation. The organizers have almost lost control of the mob on several occasions. People grabbing signs and accusted supporters of Judge Kavanaugh. It isn’t going to stop.

  9. Mercy, Lord. Grant us good people, your devoted believers in Jesus Christ, the power to pull this nation together to restore the goodness that created a country, this country, the United States of America, where all people are free. We don’t take our freedoms lightly, or take them for granted. They come with the responsibility to maintain “One Nation, under God, with Liberty and Freedom for all.”

Notice, I did not say freedom for all “except” anyone. Nor did I say “freedom for only” a certain God fearing, God loving sect! No! I say “Freedom for All.” That’s what everyone should believe, and follow and live by. No attacks of any kind, not verbal and certainly not physical! And no confrontational badgering, not in a persons face or their Facebook. Not in any way. That is how we live. Do it now. Or leave this great land and start your own commune across our borders. If you do not live in a way that supports fellow Americans of all walks of life, and this is for everyone, your should leave to make this a better place, maybe even a perfect place, without negative energy sucking us down.

  10. I think it is horrific what is happening in this country. Everyone has a write to their opinion. I was. democrat and now am going to change to being a Republican. Don’t want to associate with the party that condemns a man before obtaining all of the facts and their base is threatening and attacking people.

  11. We will find after the midterm election is over, Pres. Trump I hope will instruct the FBI to do a full and complete investigation into Every Demorats past and go from there. They are all scared about what will come out and they do not want too pay the price. Hillary will spend the rest of her life in prison if everything she has done and took part in or paid for comes out. Only the beginning. As long as the constitution stands we have hope. The main reason as I see it for the past two weeks.
