‘Where Are Our Military Folks?’: Democratic Congressman Appears to Call for Military Coup Against Trump

Just days after saying that disgraced FBI agent Peter Strzok deserved a Purple Heart, Rep. Steve Cohen (D-Tenn.) appeared to call for a military coup against President Donald Trump.

The Tennessee congressman tweeted a post referring to the president’s meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin as a treason summit and asked, “Where are our military folks?”

Many saw this tweet as a call for a military coup. After all, Cohen called the president’s actions treasonous and called for military personnel:

One even linked to U.S. Code on advocating the overthrow of the U.S. government, a crime punishable by up to 20 years in prison and a five-year prohibition of government employment:

Perhaps the legal ramifications got to Cohen, as he returned to Twitter to backpedal and clarify his comments, adding, “I seriously doubt anyone would use twitter to do”:

This is not the first time Cohen has made outlandish comments.

After declaring that Strzok deserved a Purple Heart, one Purple Heart recipient, Johnny Jones, said Cohen’s comment was “probably the stupidest thing someone’s said since [Georgia Rep.] Hank Johnson thought Guam might flip over.”

Cohen also found himself in hot water after he tweeted at Cyndi Lauper, saying, “couldn’t believe how hot u were.”
