Pro-Abortion Rights Representative Brings Coat Hanger to Briefing on Kavanaugh

After fear of the possibility of Roe v. Wade being overturned due to President Donald Trump’s newest Supreme Court pick, Rep. Lois Frankel (D-Fla.) made a clear pro-abortion rights statement in the hearing for the potential justice.

The representative was reported to have brought a coat hanger to Wednesday’s briefing on Brett Kavanaugh, Trump’s choice to fill the empty Supreme Court seat:

According to Washington Examiner reporter Laura Barron-Lopez, Frankel stated, “I’m alarmed that five men will take us [back] to these days, I call them days of coat hanger medicine”:

Politico reporter Heather Caygle said Frankel held up the coat hanger and told a story about how she found a friend “nearly dead” at 15 years old from a back-alley abortion:

Coat hangers are a common symbol used by pro-abortion rights activists. According to The Hill, earlier this year, Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) was sent a package of metal coat hangers in the mail. Collins is a key moderate voter who could help the Senate swing one way or the other in regard to confirming Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court.

Although Kavanaugh has not directly stated his stance on Roe v. Wade, Vice President Mike Pence said Tuesday he does want to see Roe v. Wade overturned.
