Despite their differences earlier in the campaign – and even some insults that passed between them – many may have expected Texas Senator Ted Cruz to give in and endorse Donald Trump when he spoke at the Republican National Convention on Wednesday evening.
But after congratulating Trump on his official nomination in the opening lines of his speech, Senator Cruz moved on to other topics.
He wrapped amid chants telling him to “endorse Trump,” but instead he challenged people to “come together on values” and “vote their conscience,” a suggestion that was met with a mix that was almost equal parts applause and boos:

Some in the crowd got so angry that they began yelling at Cruz’s wife, Heidi:

And a man apparently tried to attack Cruz after the speech:

Cruz reiterated his suggestion on Twitter:
To those listening, please don't stay home in November. If you love our country, stand and speak and vote your conscience #RNCinCLE

But not everyone felt that way:
Rumors have already begun to circulate that Senator Cruz will launch a bid for the presidency in 2020 – even if Donald Trump wins the White House in 2016.
