Fans who packed their schedules around two Las Vegas performances by Rod Stewart were met with disappointing news just hours before showtime when the music icon abruptly canceled both appearances on medical advice.
According to Fox News, the 81-year-old singer had been scheduled to perform May 29 and May 30 at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace as part of his ongoing residency.
However, the concerts were called off shortly before he was expected to take the stage.
A representative for Stewart told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that the decision was made following guidance from his doctor.
“Following his doctor’s advice, Rod Stewart has regretfully canceled his performances at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas on May 29 and 30, but is scheduled to return with shows beginning June 2.”
Stewart also addressed fans directly, explaining the health issue that forced him to step away from the stage.
“My apologies to my family of fans. I am on vocal rest as I recover from a sinus infection. I look forward to seeing you at a future show at Caesars Palace or on tour this summer.”
The cancellation came so late that some ticket holders said they learned of it less than two hours before the scheduled 7:30 p.m. start time.
Retirement is something Stewart has repeatedly said is not on his agenda.
After announcing a farewell tour in 2024, the singer clarified that he was stepping away from large-scale global tours, not from performing altogether.
“This will be the end of large-scale world tours for me, but I have no desire to retire,” Stewart wrote at the time. “I love what I do, and I do what I love.”
He added, “I’m fit, have a full head of hair, and can run 100 meters in 18 seconds at the jolly old age of 79.”
The veteran performer has often spoken about maintaining an active lifestyle.
For now, Stewart is focused on recovering his voice and returning to the stage when his doctors give him the green light.
