Biden’s campaign shared a copy of a speech the former vice president is expected to give Tuesday evening in which he claims that Trump is an “existential threat” to the United States.
According to CBS, Biden will “label Mr. Trump an existential threat to decency, America’s standing in the world, and democracy.”
During a brief press gaggle Tuesday morning, Sanders responded to Biden’s comments by calling out the foreign policy of the Obama-Biden administration.
Watch Sanders’ comments:
“I think Joe Biden has a lot of questions he needs to answer himself. The idea that he would say that the president poses any type of threat is truly laughable, considering he was part of the administration that allowed Russia to interfere in our election. He was part of the administration that allowed Iran to continue to flourish. They gave $1.8 billion to help fund Iran and their continued bad behavior. They allowed China to continue to grow, North Korea. If anything, I think he has a lot of explaining to do and I think that you guys should be asking him those questions, certainly not the president who’s had unprecedented success in each of those areas.”
As IJR previously reported, Biden’s foreign policy has been highly criticized since he announced his presidential bid. Not only does he bear the burden of Obama’s foreign policy decisions, but he also has made some questionable comments of his own, including claims that China is not a real competitive threat to the United States.
Sanders noted that she isn’t sure whether Trump will clap back at Biden, as both will be giving speeches in Iowa later in the day Tuesday, telling the press, “We’ll see what happens on that front.”
