‘Insanity’: Scalise Rips Into Omar for Suggesting Taxpayers Should Fund Abortions for Illegal Migrants

House Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) is knocking down freshman Rep. Ilhan Omar’s (D-Minn.) call for illegal immigrants to receive taxpayer-funded abortions.

In response to a Vox article on illegal immigrants fearing they’ll be deported if they receive reproductive health care, Omar suggested that taxpayers have an obligation to fund abortions for undocumented migrants.

“No one should fear receiving medical care because they are undocumented,” Omar tweeted on June 22. “We must ensure that all people in our country have access to reproductive health care.”

However, Omar’s remark was met with criticism, as Scalise bluntly responded Sunday evening on Twitter, “No, America has a responsibility to PROTECT innocent life.”

The Republican lawmaker continued to blast congressional Democrats for becoming “so radicalized” in “not only [wanting] taxpayer-funded abortions on demand, but now want your tax dollars to pay for illegal immigrant abortions too.”

“Where does it end?” he asked, labeling it “insanity!”

Providing healthcare to illegal immigrants was a topic mentioned during the second night of the 2020 Democratic primary debate.

On June 27, the Democratic presidential hopefuls were asked, by a show of hands, if they were elected if they’d provide health insurance for undocumented immigrations. All of the 10 candidates during the Thursday night debate raised their hands, including Sens. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), Kamala Harris (D-Calif.), former Vice President Joe Biden (D), among others.

“You cannot let people who are sick, no matter where they come from, no matter what their status, go uncovered,” Biden said during the debate. “… It’s the humane thing to do.”

Reacting to the 2020 Democratic hopefuls raising their hands in support of publicly funded healthcare for illegal immigrants, President Donald Trump previously tweeted, “How about taking care of American Citizens first!? That’s the end of that race!”

  1. If the Hyde amendment prevents the federal government from paying for abortions for American citizens, WHY would Steve Scalise believe Rep. Omar was asking for tax-payer funded abortion? Not following the logic that assuming the only aspect of reproductive health is abortion. Madison’s article clearly states Omar’s comment “SUGGESTED” abortion. SUGGESTED apparently to individuals that do not know what reproductive healthcare is. Rep. Scalise needs to search “reproductive health” online. Pro-Birth women and Pro-Choice women both receive reproductive healthcare.

  2. “How about taking care of American Citizens first!?” Perfect question.

On the other hand, less anchor-babies has a certain appeal.
